Sick Baby

Claire had a slight cold on Saturday. When she woke up on Sunday though, her cough was much worse and her breathing a little weazy. A few times during the day she coughed enough to make herself sick. Her breathing continued to be labored and we worried about her all day. In the evening we called the doctor to see if there was anything we could do make her more comfortable. He said there probably nothing to worry about unless she was taking more than 40 breaths a minute. A quick count later we realized she was taking about 60 breaths a minute. Instead of heading to Grandma and Grandpas for mothers day, we went to drop off the older girls and headed to the Instacare. Dave and Leslie are our amazing helpers. Not the first time this weekend they saved our bacon.

The nurse measured her blood oxygen and found it low. So the on call physician started a nebulizer breathing treatment.

After the treatment they wanted to do a chest x-ray. Good news is - no sign of pneumonia.

The breathing treatment calmed her cough and eased her breathing a little. So they sent us home with a nebulizer of our own (for treatments every four hours), two prescriptions, and instructions to follow up with our pediatrician on Monday. They also gave us a list of symptoms to watch for- reasons why we might have to go back to the emergency room in the middle of the night.

On the way out the doctor wished Mindy a "Happy Mothers Day." She had forgotten all about that. Mindy is a great Mom! So worried and focused on the kids.

Ashley and Jon helped us out with a run to WalMart and a blessing. Thank you both.

Claire continued to have an upset stomach so between that and treatments she didn't go to sleep till about 2:30 A.M.

We all got a little rest and were lucky enough to get an appointment with our doctor first thing in the morning. She was good to wear a mask in the waiting room. Don't want to share those germs!

At the doctor she got a double dose breathing treatment. The medicine is a form of adrenaline and the nurse said it was about like drinking a gallon of Coke. We played some games while waiting for the Doctor to give her the all clear. Her breathing eased some more and we got to take our jittery, shaking, hyper baby home. We still get to give treatments every four hours for a day or two. All told she is doing fine and her Doctor expects she will be back to normal in a few days. Yay for Doctors and Medicine!!
Thank you so much to our wonderful friends and family. We have had many phone calls, texts, messages, and support. We love you all. We are so blessed to have so many people who love us and our kids!

My Own Before and After

Don't you all love before and after blogs? I sure do, especially this one. I love how instantly gratifying they are. You get to see some piece of crap furniture turned into a little treasure without having to experience all the work. They inspire me. So I happened into the DI the other day and came across this beauty. I have wanted a chair for my porch for a long time. I would love to sit on the front porch and yell at random kids who happen by. "Get off my lawn, pick up your trash, don't talk like that!" You get the idea. I bought up this brown and yellow velvet treasure for $15. I decided to spray paint it white and recover the cushion with some fantastic Jessica Jones fabric. This was the result. I have to say that I had a proud moment when it was done. Now I can sit on my porch and yell to my heart's content. If you come by I will let you try it out too. The chair and the yelling.

On another note, we are finally getting some gorgeous weather in Cache Valley (Although it is suppose to snow tomorrow). Here is a little of what spring looks like at our house. I planted these daffodils the first year we lived in the house (almost 8 years ago now), and have loved them ever since. Happy spring to all of you.

A Soccer Mom I Am

Soccer season is here again and once more I have discovered the true meaning of being a "soccer mom". I spend at least 2 hours a day driving kids to different practices/games. The camp chairs have taken up permanent residence in the back of my car. I am already starting to look like a raccoon because of my tan lines from my sunglasses.
Both Syd and Brynn are playing soccer this year. Their first games were on Saturday. It is always fun to watch them play.Syd is playing on a full-sized field this year. There is tons of running up and down the field. After her games, Syd ate THREE sandwiches for lunch and about fell asleep in her dinner that night.
Claire spent much of the game boo-hooing for a "nack". It could be a long six weeks for her.

We also had to out fit Syd in new cleats. Darn kid just keeps growing. But are these not the coolest cleats you have ever seen? We don't look for Syd by her number, we look at shoes. She is easy to spot..Brynn is playing soccer for the first time this year. I thought my ballerina princess might be a little timid, but boy was I wrong. She has a bit of an aggressive streak in her. It is great to watch!

I don't know about all of you, but I remember this as being one of my favorite things about soccer. Juicy oranges, yum!

Never one to be left out, Claire decided that shin guards are the new perfect accessory for her pretties. The shin guards are too big on her and make her fall down, but she doesn't get hurt because her shins are protected, but the shin guards make her fall down, but it doesn't hurt. . . you get the idea.
As always, I am super-proud of my girls, especially the way they cheer for each other.

So if you are trying to find us over the next six weeks we are probably at the soccer field or in the car. Come watch a game with me. I will provide the fishy crackers and a chair for your bum.

Just for Katie

We are home from our spring break trip to St. George. I took over 700 pictures this week so I will have to post some later. It is too overwhelming right now. Claire also had her birthday this week- keep scrolling down for a post about the festivities. This post is just for Aunt Katie and Uncle Bart. Thank you for the awesome birthday gift. Claire loves it. When she wears the shirt we all go around singing Sweet Caroline. I am actually kind of jealous of it and may have to get one for myself. We love you guys!

Happy Birthday Claire Bear

My Baby turned two on Thursday. Can you believe it? Soon I will have to teach her that her name is Claire and not Baby. We decided that a little girl with two older sister does not really want in the toy department. So instead of getting her lots of stuff we did something we thought she would enjoy. We went to Baby Animal Day at the American West Heritage Center. We had a great time holding and petting baby cows,
baby lambs

baby piggies-I came away with a poopy sleeve as a souvenir
baby goats- he had no teeth yet so it was fun to let him chew on our fingers baby bears- super cool! How often do you get to pet a bear?

and Baby.We even got to wait in line for an hour to go on a 32-second train ride. Sydney timed it for us.

After we came home and gave the birthday girl a much-needed nap and birthday spruce up (clean clothes with no pig poop on them), we had a little party. Claire got some new clothes, new shoes, sidewalk chalk, playdough, a care bear, and the three little pigs in their little houses. After a little prompting, Claire got into opening her "prizes".

I made her a lamby cake. Pretend it looks like a lamb and not a bear with identity issues. Not my finest work, but not bad for having just over and hour to put the whole thing together.
Claire blew out her own candles, much to everyone's delight.
And we all enjoyed our cake and ice cream.
Happy birthday, my sweet girl. We sure do love you!

Spring Fever Has Hit

It was 43 degrees outside and the wind was blowing like crazy, but dang it those girls were going to play outside. We all have spring fever. These pictures don't do justice to how fast the pinwheels were spinning. The girls were running around and screaming like crazy. I still think it is cool that such little things can make kids so happy.
Brynn's recent lost tooth is very visible. She lost it during lunch at school. We never found the tooth. I have a sneaking suspicion she ate it for dessert. Yum.
Claire's gloves don't match. She could have cared less. She was just so darn happy to be outside. You can't tell but she is also wearing a very fancy pink and black dress. It is her favorite "pretty" that I bought at the DI for $4. Money very well spent. Bec, I'm sorry but the dress might be trashed before you can get your hands on it.
Hope you all are starting to have spring-like weather wherever you are.

Scrapy, scrap, scraps

Lately I have been obsessed with sewing. I love the fabric, I love cutting, ironing, stitching. It kills me to throw away any little scrap of fabric. I keep thinking "this has got to be big enough for something!" So lucky for me I discovered this fantastic blog last week. On it, there was a tutorial for the cutest little fabric eggs. I kind of fell in love with them. So here is what I did with my little scraps. See, it was worth saving them!

If you have scraps, make eggs. If not, send those scraps my way!
